RIFF WINS THE 2009 BELE CHERE!!!
Cyndy Douan knew that her 7 year old Border Collie, Riff, loved to jump. Riff has always preferred being in the air rather than on the ground. He often will jump in the air to retrieve a ball even when the ball is on the ground! Riff has jumped in agility competitions, flyball tournaments, and frisbee disc events. He has a cute set of jumping tricks when there is nothing else around that he can jump. This summer, Cyndy decided to enroll Riff in a dock diving class for fun, and, after the second class, when Riff dove off the dock and landed in the pool 25 feet away, it was really obvious that Riff had found just one more way to enjoy Big Air!
At the last minute, Cyndy entered Riff in the Ultimate Air Dogs Dock Diving Tournament at the Bele Chere Festival in Asheville, North Carolina. On Day 1 of the Tournament Riff dived to land in first place in the Masters Class (the 2nd highest Ultimate Air Dogs Jumping Division). The first set of dives on Day 2 moved Riff up to Second place in the Ultimate Division (the highest diving division!). The second set of Day 2 dives put Riff in First place in the Tournament and Riff REMAINED in First Place all the way to FINALS on Day 3. The Finals were a real nail biter. Riff was up against two of the top divers in the nation. Ginger, a Yellow Lab, and Gauge, a Chocolate Lab who also is a member of the Purina Dock Diving Team! On the first of the two Finals jumps, Cyndy threw late, causing Riff to bobble and only jump 23 feet 8 inches. Gauge was able to dive 24feet 2 inches and 24feet 3 inches and Ginger was not far behind. Cyndy and Riff took the dock for the last jump of the Finals and the crowd just lit up with cheers. Cyndy released Riff, threw the toy, and Riff LAUNCHED for the WIN!!! TWENTY-FIVE FEET, FOUR INCHES!!!!
If you would like to see video of the TEAM RIFF winning dive, it is posted on the Georgia Dog Gym Home Page at www.georgiadoggym.com
Riff and Cyndy will be competing again in Milledgeville, GA on August 29th & 30th at the Dixie DockDogs event. We hope to have great news about that tournament next month!

Tout de Suite wins the "You Did It!" Award!
On November 22, 2008, Tout de Suite ran in her very first Teacups Agility Dog Trial. This trial is different because it is only for little dogs. The obstacles are miniaturized and the courses are smaller and tighter in Teacups Dog Agility. Tout de Suite was the only Pug entered in the trial that day. It was a great day for "Toot" and Cyndy Douan, her handler. They made qualifying scores in every event that day with four 1st Place wins and one 2nd place. This crazy Human/Pug team won the judge's "You Did It" Award for the highest score in the "Dare to Double" event.......808 points! The second highest score was 256, which was 552 points less than Toot and Cyndy's score! Toot really ROCKS!!

On March 2, 2008, while running a Master's Standard Course at a USDAA Agility Trial hosted by the Lowcountry Dog Agility Association, Riff took a wide turn off of a set of jumps causing him to be off path for the oncoming dog walk. With the heart and spirit of a true working dog, Riff tried his best to scramble his way up the dog walk, even though he had no good foot hold on the plank. At the top of the dog walk, Riff fell backwards off the walk and landed on an agility tunnel that was set under the dogwalk. After consults with several different veterinarians, Riff was finally diagnosed with overstretched knee ligaments and a deep soft tissue injury to his mid-back. Riff has been at the CARE Rehabilitation Center in Aiken, SC for seven days of intensive treatments. The prognosis looks good for Riff, however he is going to need very careful rehabilitation and may possibly have to return to the CARE Center for another week of treatments. We have been touched by the concern of our friends and students who have sent up many prayers for Riff and who have also contributed donations to help offset the mounting medical bills which have resulted from the accident. In the coming months we will be hosting agility run thru's and an agility games day at the Georgia Dog Gym to continue to raise funds for Riff's treatment and rehabilitation. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all of our supporters. We will keep you all posted on Riff's progress as he recovers.

Riff's First Flyball Tournament is a Success!!
On March 31st and April 1st,2007, Riff and Cyndy joined the Music City Road Dogs Flyball Team to compete in a NAFA sanctioned tournament at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN. On Saturday, Riff's Team won First Place in Division 6 competition! According to Riff's flyball coach, Howard Bayerle, "Riff performed excellent! He earned two titles this weekend (FD - Flyball Dog and FDX - Flyball Dog Excellent) and based on the smile on his face he appeared to have a really good time. Riff's fastest run was a 4.4 second run which is really fast. Cyndy ran Riff as the start dog on the team and had one start time of .002 (that means 2/10000 of a second differenitial between the light turning green and Riff's nose crossing the beam) and that was starting from almost 60' back!" With such a remarkable performance in his first Tournament, there is talk of adding Riff to a Division 1 or 2 Flyball Team for the upcoming Tournament in May in Chatanooga. We'll keep you posted on how it all goes!

CYNDY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF IACP!
September 19, 2006- At the bi-annual Board of Directors meeting of the International Association of Canine Professionals, Cyndy Douan, owner of Kingston Kennels and Georgia Dog Gym, was elected by the Board of IACP to serve as President of their organization.
Past IACP President Martin Deeley commented on the board's election saying:
"I personally am delighted with the appointment of Cyndy Douan as President. Cyndy has been a staunch supporter and dedicated worker for IACP from its very inception. Her member number is the first ever issued. The Presidential and Executive Director positions were beginning to demand every minute of my waking day and to share these positions now with Cyndy is a great relief. With over 1000 members now, the Association is making its mark and administration plus management requires that I stepped down from one of my positions to enable more growth through sharing the load. Cyndy has my total respect, support and confidence and I hope you will all join me in this."

KINGSTON KENNEL'S BRINGS MORE SERVICES TO ROME!!!!
We are thrilled to be able to bring to you..................
GEORGIA DOG GYM, LLC
In the past nine years, we have built a tremendous business clientele here at Kingston Kennels! We thank all of you for your support and the terrific messages you spread through the community about our services. Many of our clients have requested that we expand to be able to offer more boarding capacity and a variety of other services for their pets that they cannot find locally. While we did want to expand our business here at Kingston Kennels, we felt that we might compromise the personal touches that our size and capacity allows us.
With a small core group of very qualified and experienced canine professionals, the owners of Kingston Kennels, LLC will be opening a separate facility in Rome...............GEORGIA DOG GYM, LLC. The facility will be located on Kingston Highway next to Dykes Creek. We will offer dog day care, indoor boarding for house pets, luxury boarding suites for small dogs, grooming, indoor training classes, and specialty retail items. Our plan also includes offering conditioning programs for overweight and out of shape dogs, and day training for those who want to have their dogs trained by a professional, but do not want to leave their dogs boarded several weeks at a time to get the training they want. Over time we will expand our business to include a staff of bonded in-home pet sitters, a bus service to shuttle dogs from their homes to our facilities or to other doggie appointments, and a staff of trained field guides who will take groups of dogs on guided hike trips around the Rome area. We will anounce our grand opening date soon! Keep checking back here for updates. Please send comments, feedback, and suggestions by e-mail. We value your opinions! We look forward to serving your needs for your companions!! This is a very exciting step for us. Please spread the word!!!
