AGILITY TRAINING

Kingston Kennels LLC currently offers agility training via group classes and private lessons. Training is structured for all levels of dogs and handlers. If you just want to see if your dog likes agility and you want to play around with it in your back yard, we can help you. If your goal is to compete and earn agility titles with your dog, we can help you too!

PRE-REQUISITES

In order to train for agility, your dog must be able to perform simple obedience commands like sit, down, stay, and come. Eventually you will need to have your dog responding reliably to you when he is not on a leash and not wearing a collar. For that reason we require that you complete a Basic Obedience Course before you begin agility training. At your first lesson, the instructor will evaluate you and your dog to determine if you should need more basic obedience training before you continue on with your agility training.

PUPPY TRAINING

There is plenty that you can get started on to train your new puppy for agility. You can begin training many of those concepts as soon as you bring your pup home with you. We do not teach jumping at your dog's full height until he is one year old. We also do not train full weaving body movements through the weaves until your dog is one year old. Otherwise, we can give you more homework than you can dream of to get your puppy started in its agility career.

THINGS YOU NEED FOR AGILITY TRAINING

You will need some simple agility equipment for your own back yard. We recommend 6 practice jumps, one contact obstacle, one tunnel, and a set of 12 weave poles as the minimum amount of equipment to have on hand for daily practice. Kingston Kennels LLC makes and sells any agility obstacles we use. We also recommend, for those whose goal is competition, that you suscribe to a monthly publication on Dog Agility called Clean Run. We'd appreciate if you would tell them Cyndy Douan sent you. You will also be encouraged to seek expert advise and opinions on your training from agility experts who excel at high levels of competition through private lessons, seminars, workshops, and camps. Finally, we strongly encourage you to purchase a journal for your training so that you can keep notes and track your dog's progress.

Our Agility Arena
We hold our agility training in an arena previously built and used for rodeo roping events. Our arena is completely fenced with a surface of grass turf on top of packed dirt. The arena comfortably holds two full regulation agility rings. There are also lights available for working after dark.
